We are seeking a vibrant, energetic (fit – there are over 400 steps down to the island, so that’s over 400 on the way up as well), friendly and professional Visitor Tour Guide for our South Stack Lighthouse & Visitor Centre, to provide our guests with an exceptional experience while visiting us.

In this role, you will be responsible for engaging visitors for the duration of the tour, sharing interesting facts about the history of South Stack lighthouse and the area around us eg North Stack, Ellens Tower etc., as well as about our company and answering any questions they may have.

You will also provide helpful tips on other attractions or restaurants in the area that are popular among tourists to help ensure our guests enjoy their stay in the area.

Tour Guide Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure ticket sales are recorded accurately on a daily basis
Greet all guests promptly & politely at scheduled tour times
Outline the tour and timeline before beginning
Determine if any guests have physical restrictions that should be considered
Clearly and articulately provide information to guests in an engaging manner
Answer any questions that the guests have
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of our facility and related topics
Remain calm, friendly, and enthusiastic at all times
Escort guests through the tour, taking breaks as needed

Tour Guide Requirements and Qualifications

Work experience in customer service preferred
Experience with public speaking is a plus
Able to memorize and recite facts clearly and accurately
Fluent in English; bilingual a plus – our visitors are from the UK, Europe and of course the rest of the world.
Exceptional communication skills
Flexible schedule – shifts can change due to weather conditions and external factors

The rate of pay for the 2021 season is £9 per hour.

Friday 30th July 2021 – island closed to visitors

We are unable to open the island due to staff sickness (not Covid related)

We will reopen Saturday 31stJuly 2021

Covid 19 update as of 9th July 2021

We are able to open as from Saturday 10th July 2021.

The lighthouse & buildings are closed due to Covid and building maintenance work inside.

We are able to allow visitors to visit the island, and there will be visitor guides available to look after you outside.

The cost for this will be £4 per adult. Children free.

Tours can be booked at our kiosk next to RSPB cafe at South Stack, and card payment is preferred method of payment.

As you will be outside it is not mandatory to wear a facemask, but of course you are welcome to wear one if you wish.

We look forward to seeing you on the island for the 2021 season, even if a little different tp previous seasons.

We are still closed due to Covid-19 and are waiting to see if the Welsh Government reduces the social distancing down from 2m the coming weeks.
We are working on plans & risk assessments to help us to re-open, and once the Welsh Government guidelines allow we will set a date for that reopening.
We urge people to observe social distancing, and to follow rules and guidelines anywhere you visit over the coming weeks.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update as of Monday 15th February 2021

We are still closed due to Covid-19 and are waiting to see if the Welsh Government reduces the social distancing down from 2m in this weeks review, in readiness for the opening of hospitality and tourism business’s, and allowing for the success of the rollout of the vaccines in Wales & the UK as a whole.
We are working on plans & risk assessments to help us to re-open for Easter, or as close to Easter as the Welsh Government guidelines allow. This is to help restrict the spread of coronavirus, and to safeguard the health of our guides and potential visitors to South Stack and the local area.
We urge people to observe social distancing, and not to travel at the moment due to current guidelines from all 4 UK countries.
